Project Blu Becomes B Corp Certified!

We are incredibly proud to announce that we are officially B Corp Certified. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and ethical business has been recognised with certification from B Lab. This hugely helps on our mission to create a better future for pets and the planet.

What is B Corp?

Earning the coveted B certification is a very significant step for organisations that use business as a force for good. Any company wishing to become a certified B Corporation must prove that it meets B Lab’s rigorous social and environmental standards in all aspects of its operations, from the way it uses energy and deals with waste to how it values communities and promotes diversity. While B Lab are the not-for-profit network leading a global movement of companies that value purpose beyond profit. We are proud to have joined the B Corp community with a strong score of 93.7 points.

The 5 BIA Assessment Areas:

-   Governance: Evaluating a company’s overall mission, social/environmental impact, ethics and transparency.

-   Workers: Evaluating a company’s contributions to its employee’s financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction.

-   Community: Evaluating a company’s engagement with and impact on the communities in which it operates, hires from, and sources from.

-   Environment: Evaluating a company’s overall environmental management practices as well as its impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity.

-   Customers: Evaluating a company’s stewardship of its customers through the quality of its products and services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels.

Talking the talk does not suffice. B Lab has to see irrefutable evidence that any potential B Corporation walks the walk by prioritising people and the environment over its shareholders’ bank balances.

How did Project Blu become a B Corp?

In Project Blu’s case, B Lab’s team was deeply impressed by our commitment to environmental sustainability and ethical working in everything we do. We were excited to share with them how we have used over 12 million ocean-bound plastic bottles, as well as worn clothes, recycled leather, and discarded apple peels to make stylish, recycled pet products that dogs and their humans love.

But looking at how we make our products was just the start of B Lab’s work. We only earned B Corp certification after their team was fully convinced that every element of our business, from our governance arrangements to our dealings with our customers and community, met their high standards of social and environmental responsibility.

Project Blu is enormously proud to join over 5,500 companies in the global B Corps community, all of whom are distinguished by the depth of their commitment to redefining business ethics. Our fellow B Corps in the UK include such well-known brands as The Body Shop, The Guardian, Patagonia and the organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

“I would like to thank B Lab for this incredible recognition, from all of us at Project Blu. We are enormously proud that all our hard work has been recognised with B Corp certification, and we are totally committed to building on this by doing even better in future. We will continue to be driven by our love of people, pets and the planet in everything we do.”

-   Geryn Evans, Founder & CEO of Project Blu

As a new member of the B Corps community, Project Blu is determined to double down on our commitment to sustainability in all its forms. We will continue to do all we can to shine a light for the pet industry and show how getting the best for our pets can be consistent with protecting the environment and people upon which we all depend.

Watch this space for further announcements from Project Blu as we build on our B Corps certification with even more innovations in pet style and sustainability. This is just the beginning…

Project Blu – join the sustainable revolution.
